Meet The Staff
Rebecca Pugh - Associate Athletics Director, Student-Athlete Academic Services
Rebecca Pugh is entering her fourth year as Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance & Student-Athlete Academic Services and her tenth year at UNLV. Pugh is directly responsible for monitoring and maintaining institutional compliance with the NCAA, Mountain West Conference (MWC), and University rules and regulations primarily related to amateurism, recruitment, eligibility, and financial aid. In addition, she is responsible for promoting the academic success and retention of all student-athletes participating in the intercollegiate athletics program. She oversees the day-to-day operations of Student-Athlete Academic Services.
Pugh started her path at UNLV as a student-athlete in the sport of softball in 2002. In 2007, she earned a B.S. in Physical Education K-12 with a Minor in Adapted Physical Education. In 2009, she earned a Master's Degree in Athletic Administration. She started her work experience in the UNLV athletics department as a Compliance Assistant in 2006 and from there went from Assistant Director in 2007 to Director for Compliance in 2010.
Erica Piurkowski - Director of Compliance
Erica Piurkowski began working in the compliance office in September of 2009. Prior to coming to UNLV, Erica spent time at Montana State University and The Summit League. Erica earned her bachelor's degree in Sociology from Coe College in 2003 where she was a member of the soccer team. Additionally, Erica earned her master's degree in Sport Management from Western Illinois University in 2007. Erica's current primary responsibilities include overseeing camps and clinics, National Letter of Intent, Rules Education, Student-Athlete Assistance Fund, 5th Year Works Program, Practice & Playing season and recruitment.
Madison Rousell - Assistant Director of Compliance
Madison Rousell began working for UNLV Athletics in 2012 as a fifth-year works student and became the Graduate Assistant for Compliance in August 2013. Rousell graduated from UNLV with a Bachelor's degree in Meeting and Events Management and a Master's Degree in Public Administration.
Born in Fairbanks, Alaska and raised in Port Orchard, Washington, Rousell first came to UNLV in 2007 as a member and captain of the women's swimming team. During her time with the team she appeared in multiple MWC championship meets and was part of a record setting 200 free relay squad as a freshman. She was also a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee and continues to help with the group.
Stefany Valentino - Assistant Director of Compliance
Born and raised in Agoura Hills, California, Stefany Valentino came to UNLV in the Fall of 2010. During the next four years, she competed as a member of the UNLV Softball Team. Her accolades include being a three time MWC All-Conference team member and a two-time All-West Region team member. She graduated in 2014 with a bachelors of Health Science in Kinesiology. Stefany has been working with Compliance since August 2014, starting out as a member of the fifth year student works program. She is currently an Assistant Director of Compliance and will graduate with her Masters in Public Administration in May of 2018.
Kimberly Marano - Assistant Director of Compliance
Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Kimberly Marano came to UNLV in the Fall of 2013 after one year at Slippery Rock University. While at SRU she assisted the Men's Basketball Program. Upon transfer, she started with the NCAA compliance department on a volunteer basis. She graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Communication Studies from UNLV in May of 2016. She then moved into the role of Graduate Assistant. She is currently an Assistant Director of Compliance and will graduate with her Masters in Higher Education in December of 2018.
Kendall Sandoval - Graduate Assistant
Kendall Sandoval, a Los Angeles native, began working as a Graduate Assistant for Compliance in August of 2017. Prior to becoming a Graduate Assistant, Sandoval was a member of the UNLV women’s soccer team from 2013 to 2017 and was a part of the 2016 MWC Championship team. She graduated in May 2017 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration; Marketing, and is currently pursuing a Masters of Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing.
Erik VanMeetren - Graduate Assistant
Erik was born and raised in Las Vegas to parents Ed and Robin VanMeetren. He has one younger brother, AJ, who also attended UNLV and played baseball from 2015-16. Before arriving at UNLV, Erik attended Bishop Gorman High School, where he was a four-year letter on the varsity baseball team, helping the Gaels to four state championships and one national championship. From 2011-15, Erik was the starting catcher for the UNLV baseball team, helping the Rebels attain a birth to the NCAA Regional Tournament in 2014 and earning First-Team All-Conference honors as a senior. Erik completed his BS in Hospitality Administration and following his senior year, signed a professional contract with the Washington Nationals. In the fall of 2017, Erik started his Masters of Business Administration at UNLV and is also currently working as a graduate assistant for the UNLV Office of NCAA Compliance.
Taylor Amerson - Graduate Assistant
Taylor Amerson is a Las Vegas native who started at UNLV in 2011. During her four years as an undergrad she was also on the Rebel Girls Dance Team. While on the team she became a National Champion in Division 1A Hip Hop in 2013, traveled to China in 2014, and performed at many events such as the NBA Summer League, and America’s Got Talent. She graduated from UNLV in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. Following graduation she taught dance in Chile, and shortly after lived and taught dance in China for 6 months. Since being back in the states, she started working with Compliance in September of 2017 as a graduate assistant and is pursuing her Masters in Early Childhood Education.
Genevieve Orris-Bowman - Graduate Assistant
Genevieve is mother to four sons. Genevieve was also a four year letter to the UNLV softball team. In the last three years she worked as a school teacher. She taught High School math, was the P.E. coach K-8th grade . Genevieve also became the Athletic Director managing and providing sports to Scholars K- High School. As Athletic Director Genevieve started the program from a zero budget to having the department triple in size in one year while gaining a income for the sports department through various forms of fundraising. Currently Genevieve is pursuing her masters in Public Administration. She Is working in the UNLV compliance department as a Grad Assistant, where she will gain insight to help further her career.
