Jan. 20, 2010
LAS VEGAS - The UNLV Athletics dance team, the Rebel Girls, performed last weekend at the 2010 Universal Dance Association College National Championship at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla.
Competing at the national championship for the third time in four years, the Rebel Girls placed fourth in the competition for IA Hip Hop. This year's competition was Jan. 15-18, and it marked the second time that the Rebel Girls have finished in the top five in the event, as the 2008 squad finished third in the IA Hip Hop competition. The three trips in four years are also the only time that the Rebel Girls have competed at nationals in the program's history.
"The Rebel Girls, as always, represented the university well," said head coach Marca DeCastroverde. "The team worked really hard for the past few months and it showed in its performance. I am very proud of what the team accomplished this year."
The Rebel Girls will be competing in the USA Nationals on Feb. 14-15 in Anaheim, Calif. This marks the second time that the Rebel Girls have participated in this event, and in 2008 they placed first in the Division IA Hip Hop Division.
