Rebels Set Fall Mark For Academics

UNLV had a total of 45 student-athletes earn fall 2008 Academic All-Mountain West Conference honors, the league announced on Monday. The Rebels' 45 representatives set a new school record for a fall semester since the inception of the MWC. The previous high was set merely one year ago with 43 honorees. UNLV tied TCU for the fourth-most selections in 2008, behind BYU's 72, Utah's 51 and New Mexico's 47.
To be eligible for selection to the Academic All-MWC team, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the school, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their team.
UNLV football one-upped itself in the fall with a program-best 20 student-athletes being recognized. The 2008 figure broke the one-year-old record of 16 set last season.
The volleyball program tied its best showing ever with 10. The 2002 and 2005 squads had 10 selections each, as well.
Rounding out UNLV's fall sports were women's soccer with 11 honorees and women's cross country with four.
