LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV Director of Athletics Tina Kunzer-Murphy on Wednesday announced the hiring of longtime Olympics communications executive Darryl Seibel as Associate Athletics Director of External Relations.
In his new position, Seibel (pronounced "SY-bel") will oversee the athletics department's marketing, media relations and community relations efforts along with working with ticketing and development (RAF).
A 1990 graduate of New Mexico State University, Seibel joined the Olympic movement later that year and went on to work nine Olympic Games and numerous other international events. He was the Chief Communications Officer for the United States Olympic Committee from 2003-09 and then served as Director of Communications and Olympic Media Strategy for the British Olympic Association through this year's Winter Games in Sochi.
"We are excited to welcome Darryl, who brings to UNLV more than two decades of experience directing communications for sports at the highest level across globe," Kunzer-Murphy said. "I believe his vast experience working with all kinds of athletes, coaches, sponsors, administrators, politicians and media will serve us well as we work to strengthen the UNLV brand on all levels."
Seibel also had stints at USA Wrestling (1990-92) and USA Hockey (1992-99) as well as serving as Chief Operating Officer for the Colorado Springs Sports Corporation from August 2000-January 2003.
"UNLV Athletics has a proud tradition of excellence and I'm excited to work with Tina, our coaches, administrators, student-athletes and the entire UNLV family in fulfilling the shared vision for even greater success in the future," Seibel said.
