April 25, 2011
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Cody Bremner, Christine Samson, and Shun Jinnouchi represnted UNLV Athletic Training this month at the 2011 Far West Athletic Trainer's Association (FWATA) Quizbowl, which was held April 15 at the Las Vegas Hilton.
The three-person team made up of UNLV Athletic Training Educational Program students did an outstanding job and were crowned champions of the event. In fact, they were - at one point during the competition - ahead by over 10,000 points.
The competition consisted of an academic jeopardy contest that tested their understanding of all aspects of the Athletic Training Curriculum. Their understanding allowed them to be victorious over eight other entry-level athletic training education programs' teams.
Their victory has now made them eligible to represent UNLV and the FWATA at the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) annual meeting in the National Quizbowl and to attend the 2011 NATA meeting with free registration and $1,500 in travel support. There they will compete against nine other teams representing each of the regional districts of the NATA.
Bremner is a senior from Panguitch, Utah, Jinnouchi is a senior from Tokyo, Japan, and Samson is a junior from Las Vegas, Nevada (Clark HS). The NATA annual meeting will be in New Orleans, La. from June 19-22, 2011.
