Schools Helping Schools Program Underway
July 14, 2003
LAS VEGAS - The UNLV Athletics Department has begun a new program called Schools Helping Schools, the marketing and community relations department announced Monday.
The program, which is being offered to all Las Vegas valley elementary and middle schools, will bring the athletics department into the youth community and allow for the schools to raise funds in the process.
Participating schools will pick a particular Rebel football or Runnin' Rebel basketball game of their choice and sell tickets to the respective event. The school will then keep $5 for each ticket it sells.
To kick off the project, UNLV student-athletes will make appearances at each school that participates.
Additionally, incentives including tickets, merchandise and special recognition are being offered to the schools for the class and individual student with the most sales.
"This program is a great way for UNLV Athletics to help out local elementary and middle schools," said Wendy Wallington, UNLV's assistant marketing and community relations director, who is in charge of the program. "We are excited about this partnership as it is a way for us to get out in the community as well as a way for the schools to raise some money. We hope that the students will enjoy the interaction as well."
