LAS VEGAS - The UNLV athletics department has been awarded four citations of excellence from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the school announced Thursday.
Andy Grossman, who enters his fifth season at the school but his first as director of media relations, was honored for his 1999-00 UNLV men's golf media guide. The publication earned first place in District Eight. It was Grossman's third best-in-the-district award. Also, Grossman's 1999-00 women's volleyball media guide was honored as third in the district.
Associate director for sports information Mark Wallington, who is entering his eighth season with UNLV, earned a citation of excellence in writing. His 1999 feature on Rebel head football coach John Robinson earned him best-in-the-district honors for a coach/administrator profile. The award was the 16th from the organization during his career.
Former sports information director Jim Gemma, who is now with the Las Vegas Silver Bandits of the IBL, also earned a citation. His 1999-00 Runnin' Rebel basketball guide was judged second in the district, behind only the University of Utah.
District Eight consists of all schools in the states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and the Canadian province of British Columbia.
CoSIDA was established in 1955 to serve SIDs and others associated with the promotion of college athletics. The organization boasts nearly 2,000 members.
