Sept. 13, 2017
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV football running back Lexington Thomas has been named the Outstanding Rebel of the Week presented by Air Force Reserve, the school announced Wednesday.
The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletic Communications department.
Thomas, a Houston, Texas, native, ran 17 times for a career-high 190 yards and three touchdowns in leading UNLV to a 44-16 win at Idaho Saturday. With the Rebels only up 10-3 at halftime, Thomas came out of the locker room and dominated the third quarter by scoring three touchdowns, helping UNLV to its biggest margin of victory in a road game since 1980.
His first touchdown, a 60-yard run on the third play in the second half, made it 17-3 with just over 12 minutes to play in the quarter. His second score from one yard out made it 24-3 and his third, a 62-yard scamper, extended the lead to 34-10 and all but sealed the outcome.
For his performance, Thomas was one of seven players honored this week by the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award. Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield was the national player of the week for the award while Thomas was honorable mention along with five others.
The Rebels have a bye this weekend before heading to Columbus to face No. 8 Ohio State on September 23. Kickoff is set for 9 a.m. PT on Big Ten Network.
