Sept. 27, 2000
LAS VEGAS - UNLV student-athletes George Gordon (football), Brooke Ingalls (women's basketball) and Chris Richardson (men's basketball), along with Runnin' Rebel assistant coach Dave Rice, will be on hand at the Chefs for Kids Breakfast at Sunrise Acres Elementary School at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 28.
The UNLV representatives will be speaking to approximately 750 underprivileged kids on such topics as healthy eating, staying in school and participating in sports. UNLV mascot Hey Reb will also be in attendance and will be handing out posters to the kids.
Chefs for Kids, which started in 1989, is an extension of the American Culinary Federation's Chef and Child Foundation Inc. Chefs for Kids provides at-risk elementary students with health and nutrition programs. The group has educated and fed nearly 11,000 Clark County students.
The organization has a full-time nutritionist to teach first and second grade students at four of Clark County's most needy elementary schools. Also, local chefs get together to serve a hot meal once a month at one of the schools.
Sunrise Acres Elementary is located at 2501 Sunrise Avenue off Eastern just north of the Eastern/Charleston intersection.
