Gonzales Named Outstanding Rebel Of The Week|
Dec. 6, 2017
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV men's swimmer Brad Gonzales has been named the Outstanding Rebel of the Week presented by Air Force Reserve, the school announced Wednesday.
The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletic Communications department.
Gonzales, a freshman from Cypress, California, set a pair of school records at last weekend's Texas Hall of Fame Swimming Invitational, held in Austin, Texas. He placed third overall in the mile with a time of 14:46.31, which is more than six seconds faster than the previous top time in program history and is the sixth fastest time in the nation this year. Gonzales' split of 8:58.91 in the 1000 free is a new school record as well. For his performance, the first-year Rebel swimmer was named the WAC Men's Swimmer of the Week and was selected as Collegeswimming.com's WAC Swimmer of the Week.
The Rebels are off for the rest of the fall semester, and will return to competition in 2018, with a pair of meets at UC Santa Barbara on Jan. 12-13.
