LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV baseball team closed out its season by defeating Air Force 13-4 and taking the Mountain West series two games to one Saturday afternoon at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.
The Rebels finished with a record of 21-30 and 12-18 in the MW, while the Falcons dropped to 26-29 and 17-13 in league play.
REBEL OF THE GAME: Alex Pimentel went 4-for-6 at the plate with his fourth home run of the season, three RBIs and three runs scored.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Air Force jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first with back-to-back RBI singles from Trayden Tamiya and Chase Spencer, respectively. However, the Rebels exploded in the bottom of the frame with eight runs on six hits, including an RBI triple from Rylan Charles and Pimentel's three-run home run, to take the lead. UNLV plated two more runs in the bottom of the third with an RBI single from Charles followed by a sacrifice fly from Jacob Sharp to put the lead to eight. The Falcons answered back in the top of the fifth with an RBI double from Jay Thomason followed by an RBI single from Tamiya to cut the deficit to six. The Rebels added three more runs on three hits in the bottom of the eighth to close the scoring.
Josh Sharman (7-1) secured the win for UNLV after throwing 3.2 innings of relief and allowing two runs on seven hits with five strikeouts.
Noah Carabajal (S,1) earned his first save of the season after pitching 3.2 innings of relief and allowing only one hit with four strikeouts.
Dylan Rogers (2-6) was saddled with the loss for Air Force after allowing seven runs on five hits in two-thirds of an inning.
SENIOR SEND-OFF: Prior to Saturday's finale, the Hustlin' Rebels recognized their 10 outgoing seniors: Zack Simon, Peyton Fuller, Cole Andavolgyi, Joey Acosta, Nick Rupp, Braden Murphy, Noah Mattera, Josh Sharman, Jason Sharman and Austin Kryszczuk.
