Athletics Communications Student Assistants

Interested in a career in Sports Communications? The UNLV Athletics Communications Office is looking for dedicated and committed students interns that have an interest in the athletics field to work as part of the communications staff during the 2015-16 academic year. This unpaid internship may be used for class credit towards your academic program (depending on area of study).

Student Assistants will have the opportunity to work with several areas of a collegiate sports information office. That can include:

· Working at home events for some of the UNLV Athletic Department's 17-sports programs.

  • Assist with setup duties for the home contests
  • Act as a runner for distributing in-game and post-game stats
  • Assist with in-game statistics for specific sports
  • Assist with post-game quotes
  • Other assigned duties

· Serving as office assistants, which would involve:

  • Dealing with day-to-day operations of the office
  • Assisting with research
  • Assisting with the maintenance of the UNLVRebels.com website

· Serving as a sport contact for an assigned sport

  • Work directly with a member of the communications staff for coverage of a specific sport
  • Write game/meet recaps and weekend previews
  • Update coach and athlete bios for the UNLVRebels.com website
  • Keep season statistics updated for assigned sport
  • Writing assigned feature stories on a student-athlete or athletic team
  • Handle other requests during the season for the assigned sport

Basic Qualifications for Student Assistants

· Current UNLV student
· Knowledge of athletics

Any writing or statistical experience is a desired but not requred

· Develop public relations skills, including the chance to build a writing portfolio
· Future opportunities - several former interns in our office have moved on in the field to full-time positions in the college sports information field.
