UNLV Signing Day

UNLV FOOTBALL ANNOUNCES NINE MORE SIGNEES

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV football head coach Tony Sanchez announced nine more future Rebels who signed during Wednesday's initial day of the traditional national signing period.

"We are excited about this group and believe it will have an impact this season and for many more to come," said Sanchez. "Obviously this was the first time with two signing days and we really liked the process. We were able to sign 13 guys in December and then focus on finishing strong with the nine today. There is a lot of talent out there and it benefited us to wait to fill the class."

This portion of the recruiting class is made up of six high school players and three junior-college transfers. UNLV, which is allowed to sign 25 new players this year, announced an early class of 13 in December. That puts the program's total so far at 22.

"We have three scholarships still open and that is by design because there are some other players out there, including looking at grad transfers."

Wednesday's haul is heavy on defense with seven players on that side of the ball and two on offense: 4 DL, 2 LB, 1 OL, 1 DB and 1 TE.

Combined with December's list, the full UNLV class boasts 13 players on defense, eight on offense and one listed as an Athlete. The full breakdown is as follows: 6 DL, 5 DB, 3 OL, 2 LB, 2 QB, 1 WR, 1 RB, 1 TE and 1 ATH.

"Having a full load of 25 scholarships, we were able to hone in on building the defense this year and for the future," said Sanchez. "We added both JC and high school guys so we didn't have to sell out the future for the present."
