UNLV FOOTBALL ADDS TWO MORE TO CLASS
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) -UNLV's recruiting class has grown to 24 with the addition of wide receiver/kick returner Tyleek Collins (5-9, 170, FR-HS) and offensive lineman Eric Brown (6-4, 325, FR-HS), head coach Tony Sanchez announced Friday.
The highly recruited Collins is the third player from Georgia in this year's class and one of six from the Peach State scheduled to be on the Rebels' 2018 roster. A native of Savannah, he spent his senior season at Hapeville Charter Career Academy in Atlanta and helped the Hornets win the AA state title last fall. He is listed as a three-star recruit by Rivals and 247Sports.
"Tyleek is a dynamic, highly sought-after athlete who will bring explosiveness to our wideout spot," said Sanchez. "He'll also have every opportunity to return kickoffs and punts for us and add more athleticism there. He's someone who creates some space issues for opponents."
Brown is an impressively sized local product who is one of four offensive linemen and also four Southern Nevada natives in the class. Brown, who played for former Rebel offensive lineman Brian Castro, helped Green Valley High School to a 10-3 record last fall and was named First Team All-State by both USA TODAY and the Las Vegas Review-Journal's Nevada Preps.
"Eric is a big, strong, physical kid who is gifted in how he uses his feet," said Sanchez. "We feel he has a chance to be the next local kid who makes a big impact up front for us during his career."
The February portion of the recruiting class is made up of eight high school players and three junior-college transfers. UNLV, which is allowed to sign 25 new players this year, announced an early class of 13 in December, which puts the program's current total at 24.
Combined with December's list, the full UNLV class boasts 13 players on defense, 10 on offense and one listed as an Athlete. The full breakdown is as follows: 6 DL, 5 DB, 4 OL, 2 LB, 2 QB, 2 WR, 1 RB, 1 TE and 1 ATH.
One of the most geographically diverse classes in UNLV history, the combined list breakdown looks like this: eight from California, four from Nevada, three from Georgia, two from Arizona, two from Texas and one each hailing from Hawai'i, Maryland, Oregon, Utah and Louisiana.
UNLV's spring practice begins March 6 and culminates with the Spring Showcase Saturday, April 14 at noon on campus.
