Rebels Split With Sun Devils|

TEMPE, Ariz. (UNLVRebels.com) - Competing in the state of Arizona for the second time in as many days, the UNLV swimming and diving team earned a split in a dual meet contest at Arizona State on Saturday afternoon. The Rebel men evened their record at 1-1 with a 192-105 win over the Sun Devils, while UNLV dropped the women's competition by a 198.5-98.5 margin to fall to 0-2.
The Rebel men dominated their meet from start to finish, claiming first place in 12 of the 14 swimming events, including both relays. Giacomo Gremizzi paced the way with three individual wins on the day, coming in the 200 free (1:38.90), the 200 breast (2:02.41) and the 400 IM (3:53.99). UNLV also had a pair of double-winners, with Matt Roe taking first in both distance events, with times of 9:28.68 in the 1000 free and 4:34.73 in the 500 free. The second double winner was Balint Batka, in the 200 fly (1:47.34) and the 200 back (1:51.24). Other winners on the day included David Szele in the 100 breast (55.32), Dillon Virva in the 50 free (20.06) and Samuel Lameynardie in the 100 free (44.84).
The winning 400 medley relay squad for the Rebel men was made up of Henrique Machado, Szele, Batka and Lamaynardie, who teamed up to finish in a first place time of 3:18.55. The final event of the day, the 200 free relay, was won by the quartet of Virva, Guilherme Passos, Szele and Tom Paco-Pedroni with a time of 1:21.38.
On the women's side, the Rebels posted wins in two events, beginning with Katelyne Herrington's first place swim in the 100 fly, with a time of 54.85. The other first place for UNLV came from the 200 free relay, as Rachel Dixon, Elena Gavrilova, Julia Fehervari and Herrington recorded a winning time of 1:35.02. Earning second place finishes against Arizona State included Jessica Wong (100 back), Janelle Nguyen (200 fly), Gavrilova (50 free) and Kristina Hendrick (400 IM).
The Rebels' next competition will be on Friday, Nov. 1, with a home meet against Toronto at 7 pm in Buchanan Natatorium.
