LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - After the first day of action at the UNLV Winter Invitational, the host Rebels stand in first place on the men's side and in second place on the women's after winning a total of four events on Saturday night from Buchanan Natatorium.

The teams combined for a total of four first place swims. The first win of the night came in the men's 200 free relay, with the quartet of Guilherme Passos, Conner Luster, Tom Paco-Pedroni and David Szele touching the wall first in a time of 1:21.91, 0.19 seconds ahead of Pacific.

In the 500 free, Giacomo Gremizzi was the highest collegiate finisher, placing second overall but earning first place points with a time of 4:32.77 in the 500 free. Former Rebel and current student assistant Kier Maitland was the winner of the event (4:20.64). Another Rebel student assistant, Charlie Tapp, posted the night's fastest time in the 50 free, finishing in 20.10.

UNLV finished the night sweeping the 400 medley relays event. Carmen Robb, Nakyla Chan, Katelyne Herrington and Rachel Dixon posted a time of 3:46.57 to place first. On the men's side, Henrique Machado, Szele, Cody Roberts and Samuel Lameynardie posted a winning time of 3:21.59.

The Rebels lead the men's team standings with a score of 336, with Pacific standing in second at 238. Fresno Pacific is third 179, Concordia is fourth (143) and Colorado Mesa fifth (115). On the women's side, New Mexico is the first day leader at 377, followed by UNLV in second with 243 and Pacific in third (219). Fresno Pacific is fourth (108), Cal State East Bay fifth (74), Azusa Pacific sixth (32) and Concordia seventh (17).

 

 

The three-day meet continues on Sunday before concluding on Monday.
