Rebels Sweep Mountain West Weekly Honors|

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV women's swimming and diving earned a complete sweep of the weekly Mountain West honors this week, as sophomore Ida Schutt was awarded with MW Swimmer of the Week while senior Mykalla Fielding was named MW Diver of the Week the league office announced on Tuesday. Both were key parts in this weekend's dual meet wins over Grand Canyon (188-111) and Wyoming (181-117). Schutt was also selected as the Mountain West Swimmer of the Week by Collegeswimming.com, and freshman Brad Gonzales was also recognized by CollegeSwimming.
Ida Schutt, a sophomore and native of Dragoer, Denmark, won four individual events this past weekend in the Rebels' competition against Wyoming and GCU Jan. 26-27 in Las Vegas. She placed first in the 400 IM (4:19.46) and anchored the winning 400 medley relay (3:42.11) on Friday night in the meet against Wyoming. Swimming against Wyoming and GCU on Jan. 27, she added wins in the 1000 free (10:06.99), 200 free (1:50.85), and in the 500 free (5:01.85). She also led off on the winning 400 free relay (3:29.82).
Mykalla Fielding, from Los Angeles, won both diving events this weekend against Wyoming and GCU. She placed first on 1 Meter (298.35) as well as first on 3 Meter (324.85). That continues a strong run for the senior this month, as on Jan. 20 against University Nevada, Reno, she shattered the 3 Meter school record with a career-high score of 345.00.
Brad Gonzales, from Cypress, Calif., won two individual events this past weekend against Wyoming and GCU. He touched first in the 1000 free (9:19.05) and in the 500 free (4:30.91). Gonzales has achieved many milestones during his first season as a Rebel, including a new school record for the 1000 free and for the 1650 which he had shattered previously this season during the Texas Invite.
NEXT FOR THE REBELS: The Rebel divers will compete at the Air Force Invite February 2-3. The next competition for the swimmers will be at the Mountain West Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Championships February 14-17 in San Antonio, Texas, while the Rebel men will be at the Western Athletic Conference Championship meet February 21-24 in Houston, Texas.
