Rebels Travel To Lone Star State For 2017 MW Championships|

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV Rebels will be at the 2017 Mountain West Women's Swimming and Diving Championships this week, held in College Station, Texas at the Texas A&M Natatorium. This year's championship will run from Wednesday, Feb. 15-Saturday, Feb. 18, with preliminaries starting at 12:30 pm (CT) on Wednesday, 11:00 am (CT) Thursday-Saturday while the night finals will have a 6:30 pm (CT) start.
"We are excited to see everyone's hard work come to fruition," said head coach Ben Loorz. "This is a delayed gratification sport, and it has been a long season of preparation. I know our women are ready to go fast. They have done a great job of staying invested in the process this year, and when you see that, as a coach, you know good things will follow."
The Rebels have their sights set on surpassing last year's finish of fifth place. Looking to pace UNLV's efforts this season is Sofia Carnevale, who brings the league's second-fastest time in the 100 breast (1:02.05) into the week and posted a `B' cut time in the 200 breast (2:15.90) which is the fifth fastest time in the field. Kristina Hendrick, slotted third in the 200 IM, and Ida Schutt, who's fourth in the 400 IM are also expected to be a strong contenders in their events this weekend. Kyndal Phillips earned the league's seventh-fastest time in the 100 back (54.83) and is fourth in the 200 back (1:58.21). Another event that has been a positive for UNLV this season has been the 200 fly featuring Gozde Tekin (2:01.82, fourth) and Kimberly Hendrick (2:02.35, sixth).
