LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The success for UNLV swimming and diving was not limited to just the pool this past season, as both the men's and women's teams were recognized by the College Swim Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) as their 2014 Spring Scholar All-America Team Awards (sponsored by Nike Swim) were announced on Thursday.

The Rebel women's team in fact posted a 3.59 GPA over the spring semester that tied it for fifth-highest in the nation. The Rebel men meanwhile were also honored thanks to their 3.0 overall GPA for the spring, and they were one of 12 teams to both earn team academic awards while also finishing in the top 20 at the 2014 NCAA Championships.

The Spring Team Scholar All-America award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams who have achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or higher in the semester/quarter coinciding with the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.

Several Rebels were also honored this week by the Mountain West, who released both its Academic All-Conference and MW Scholar-Athlete Teams.

UNLV placed 19 members of the women's swimming and diving team on the 2014 Spring Academic All-Mountain West Conference team, while a school record-tying 12 Rebels were named MWC Scholar-Athletes.

To be eligible for selection to the Academic All-MWC team, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the school while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, and be a starter or significant contributor on their team. To be eligible for selection as a MWC Scholar-Athlete, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition for their athletic team.
