Sept. 23, 2011
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The Mountain West released its annual women's swimming and diving preseason poll on Friday and UNLV garnered 32 points, which was good enough for fourth in the poll.
The sophomore laden Rebels look to build off their success a year ago. Jessica Heim (distance free), Rachel Dixon (sprint free) and Katelyne Herrington (fly) all posted multiple top-eight finishes at the MW Championships last year. Anja Crawford (back) enters her senior season for UNLV looking to build off of a fourth place finish in the 200 back at the MW Championships. The Rebels also return Mariah Skeen, who was runner-up at the conference championships on the 1-meter board and is also the school record holder in the event.
San Diego State was picked to repeat as MW champions earning 48 points. The Aztecs also received six of the eight first place votes. Newcomer to the conference, Boise State finished second with 41 points and picked up the other two first place votes. Wyoming finished seven points ahead of the Rebels with 39 points for third. Rounding out the poll was TCU (24), Colorado State (18), New Mexico (15) and Air Force (7).
The Rebels will begin their season at home on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 1 pm against San Diego State at Buchanan Natatorium.
