UNLV swimming and diving will host the UNLV Invite with six other teams this Thursday-Saturday. Competing with the Rebels in the Jim Reitz Pool will be UCSB, Cal Baptist, Cal Poly, CSU Bakersfield, Pacific, and BYU. There will be eight sessions over the course of three days. The morning sessions will begin at 9:30 each morning, there will be two diving sessions which starts at 12:30 Thursday and Friday, and the evening sessions will begin at 5pm each day.
For the Rebel men, freshman Brad Gonzales stands out with two 1st place rankings for the WAC conference in the 500 free and the 1000 free. Senior Forrest Beesley holds top eight ranks in four events, 100 free (1st), 200 free (8th), 100 back (6th), and 200 back (2nd). Senior Dylan Tarazona is ranked in the top eight for two events, 100 fly (2nd) and 50 free (3rd). Senior Francois Van Wynsberghe holds two top eight rankings in the 100 breast (2nd) and the 200 breast (4th).
Leading the Rebel women is senior Sara Delay who is ranked in the top eight for the Mountain West Conference in three events, 100 free (4th), 50 free (7th), and 200 free (8th). Sophomore Ida Schutt is ranked in the top eight for two events, 500 free (7th) and 1000 free (7th). Sophomore Kate Afanasyeva is another Rebel who made her way to the top eight for two events, 100 back (4th) and 100 fly (8th). Sophomore Sofia Carnevale holds two spots in the top eight for two events, 100 breast (3rd) and 200 breast (7th).
"We're excited to have powerful mid-major teams from the west that are coming here, who we don't usually get to see in a dual meet during the season. These are teams that are at our level and especially for our men's side, this will be a snapshot of what conference will look like for us at the end of the season."
