UNLV swimming and diving will head over to Austin, Texas where they will compete with 13 other teams this Wednesday-Saturday at the 2017 Texas Invitational. Competing with the Rebels in the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center will be Texas, Arizona, Arizona State (men), BYU, Harvard, Northern Arizona, Okl, Rutgers, Stanford, TCU, USC, UCLA (women), and Wisconsin. There will be seven sessions over the course of four days. The morning preliminaries will begin at 8 am (PT), while the night finals will have a 4 pm (PT) start. Wednesday will feature a single night session, also at 4 pm (PT).
For the Rebel men, freshman Brad Gonzales is seeded out of 31 swimmers for the mile and 16th out of 67 swimmers for the 500 free. Senior Or Sabatier is 16th out of 91 for the 100 free and eighth out of 108 for the 50 free followed by teammates Dylan Tarazona (23rd), Forrest Beesley (32nd), and Joe Starkweather (33rd). Senior Forrest Beesley is seated 21st out of 91 for the 100 free. Senior Dylan Tarazona is ranked 16th out of 65 for the 100 fly. Senior Francois Van Wynsberghe is 15th out of 49 for the 100 breaststroke.
Leading the Rebel women is sophomore Sofia Carnevale who is seeded sixth out of 45 for the 100 breast, fifth out of 41 for the 200 breast, and 31st out of 91 for the 50 free. Sophomore Kyndal Phillips is seventh out of 52 for the 200 back and 11th out of 58 for the 100 back. Sophomore Ida Schutt is ranked 11th out of 41 for the 400 IM. Senior Sara Delay is ranked 30th out of 91 for the 50 free.
"This is a great chance to see what we're made of. The crew that I will be bringing wasn't able to rest for the UNLV Invite, but now that they have rested I'm excited to see the times that they will post. We're around some of the best teams, so there will be some great competition."
