Two Rebels Earn All-Conference Accolades

Erik VanMeetren earns All-Mountain West First Team honors and Kenny Oakley gains second team recognition.

VanMeetren enters his fourth season with the UNLV baseball program in 2015 ... Looks to be the Rebels' primary catching option in 2015, but could also serve as a designated hitter.

2014 - JUNIOR
Played in all but one game for UNLV (60) and made 58 starts behind the plate ... Hit .291 with 14 doubles, a triple, two home runs and drove in 29 RBI ... Drew a team-high 29 walks and stole seven bases, which ranked second on the team ... Threw out 12 opponents attempting to steal, which was the fifth-most in the Mountain West ... Best hitting performance came against New Mexico (April 25), finishing 4-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored ... Drove in three RBI twice: against San Jose State (April 13) and against Nevada, Reno (May 16).

Played in 20 games for the Anchorage Glacier Pilots of the Alaska Baseball League.

Appeared in 53 games and made 47 starts as a sophomore for the Rebels ... Made a team-high 37 starts at catcher and started 10 games as the designated hitter ... Hit .299 and recorded 11 doubles and 33 RBI ... Named the Mountain West Player of the Week on April 22 after going 8-of-16 with seven RBI, two doubles and scoring six runs in a series sweep of San Diego State and a victory over UC Riverside ... Drove in a season-high three runs twice (vs. New Mexico, March 17; vs. San Diego State, April 21) ... Scored a season-high four runs at UC Riverside (April 16) ... Recorded 18 mult-hit games, including five 3-hit games, and drove in multiple runs in eight games ... Recorded a 10-game hitting streak (From April16 to May 3), which was tied for the longest hitting streak for the team.

Appeared in 31 games, starting 25 of them, as a true freshman for the Rebels ... Made all starts at catcher, but appeared as a pinch hitter and played in the outfield against Cal State Bakersfield on February 29 ... Hit .287 with 14 RBI ... Went 3-of-3 with a double and two RBI against at Sacramento State on May 18.

Was a four-year letterman at national power Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas along with classmate and Rebel teammate T.J. White ... Helped lead the Gaels to four consecutive Nevada State Championships and a No. 6 ranking by Baseball America in 2011 ... Primarily played catcher, but also saw time in the outfield and at first base ... Batted .380 as a freshman, .495 as a sophomore, .380 as a junior and .505 during his senior season ... Helped Gorman to a 35-4 mark in his senior year, which included a 21-game winning streak to end the year.

Son of Ed and Robin VanMeetren ... Has a younger brother, A.J., who joined the Rebelsin the fall ... Father played baseball at Dixie State, at Nevada, Reno and is the current high school volleyball coach for Bishop Gorman High School ... Cousin Jason VanMeetren played at Stanford and was a 13th round draft pick by the Seattle Mariners in 2001... Majoring in hospitality management.
