Rebels Beat BYU 10-3 On Monday|

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV baseball (16-5) returned to its winning ways with a 10-3 victory over former conference rival BYU (9-11) on Monday at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.
This was the first non-conference meeting between the two schools since 1996 as BYU left the Mountain West for the West Coast Conference at the end of the 2011 season.
The Rebels were consistent throughout the game, scoring runs in every inning but the sixth and seventh.
UNLV jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings, but BYU made it interesting, scoring three runs in the top of the third. The Rebels responded by scoring six unanswered runs.
Senior Mark Shannon (3-0) got the start for UNLV and went 7.0 innings allowing three runs on six hits. He was able to strike out five batters while walking only two. Freshman Kenny Oakley came in for relief and pitched the remaining two innings without allowing a hit, while striking out three.
From the plate the Rebels were led by Justin Jones, as the freshman finished 3-for-4 with one run scored an RBI. Joey Armstrong (2-for-4), T.J. White (2-for-5), Mark Shannon (2-for-3) and Cody Howard (2-for-5) all finished with multiple hits in the game.
UNLV will head back on the road for its next series against MW member San Diego State. The Rebels will play a three-game series against the Aztecs starting Friday, March 22 through Sunday, March 24. The team will stay in San Diego one extra day to play the No. 25 University of San Diego on Monday, March 25. UNLV will return home to face Air Force on March 29.
