LAS VEGAS ( - UNLV baseball (15-7/8-3 Mountain West) suffered a 5-2 defeat to San Diego State (17-5/5-3 MW) on Saturday at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.

It marked the first time this season the Rebels have lost at home, after winning a school-record 11 consecutive games to start the year.

Just like Friday night, the Aztecs took a 1-0 lead after Seby Zavala drove Ty France home with an RBI single up the middle.

The Aztecs tacked on another run in the fourth inning when Steven Pallares scored Brad Haynal with a single down the right field line to go up 2-0.

San Diego State pushed its lead to 4-0 after Haynal hit a two-run home run to left field in the sixth.

The Rebels broke through in the bottom of the sixth after Joey Swanner drove in Eric VanMeetren on a single to right field. UNLV added in another run in the bottom of the seventh when Johnathan Torres' single to left field, which brought home Joey Armstrong.

San Diego added an insurance run in the eighth inning when Tyler Adkison scored on an error.

UNLV recorded 11 hits, led by Swanner and Justin Jones, who each went 3-for-4 on the day. John Richy suffered his first defeat of the season (4-1). He surrendered four runs, three of which were earned, on 10 hits in 5 1/3 innings.

San Diego State sophomore Bubba Derby (4-0) earned his fourth win of the season after allowing two runs on nine hits in 6.2 innings of work. He struck out five and walked none. Junior Michael Cederoth earned his conference-best eighth save of the season.

The Rebels and Aztecs will play the series rubber match on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. PT. Sophomore Bryan Bonnell (2-1, 1.69 ERA) will get the nod for UNLV, while sophomore Mark Seyler (4-1, 1.21 ERA) is projected to be on the bump for San Diego State.

The deal expires three hours before the first pitch of every home game. Prices for individual games are $8 for adults, $6 for faculty/staff and seniors and $5 for groups of 15 or more (group tickets must be purchased at least one day in advance for the game). Children 12 and under and UNLV students with a valid student I.D. are free.
