CEDAR CITY, Utah - UNLV's Eric Nielsen came through when it counted as the senior right fielder's 3 RBI triple down the right line in the 10th inning propelled the Rebel baseball team (17-7) to a 10-7 non-conference victory over the Thunderbirds of Southern Utah (5-13) on Tuesday afternoon.

UNLV had a 7-3 advantage after six innings before the Thunderbirds scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh and two more in the bottom of the ninth to force the game into extra innings.

Rebel third baseman Ty Soto led off the top of the tenth with a double up the middle which was followed by an infield single by shortstop Peter White. Left fielder Andrew D'Angelo then grounded out to second base, allowing Soto to advance to third and White to advance to second.

The Thunderbirds then elected to intentionally walk Rebel center fielder Brent Johnson, which loaded the bases for Nielsen who tripled down the right side, putting the Rebels ahead for good at 10-7.

Nielsen finished the game 2-for-5 with 4 RBI, while Soto finished 3-for-5 with 2 runs scored. White, first baseman Eddie Gill, and second baseman Ryan Ruiz each added two hits for the Rebels.

For the Thunderbirds, center fielder Kory Drew finished 4-for-6 with 2 RBI and shortstop Jason Ruiz ended the game 1-for-4 with 3 RBI.

UNLV closer Matt Minor (3-1) picked up the win in relief for the Rebels while reliever Ryan Zimmerman (1-3) was charged with the loss for Southern Utah.

The Rebels will be back in action on Friday at 6:30 p.m. as they will host Air Force in a three-game series this weekend.
