Rebels Rally To Sweep Air Force|

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV baseball (20-8, 5-4 Mountain West) rallied to complete the sweep over Air Force (8-18, 2-5) with a 8-7 victory on Sunday at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.
Rebel freshman Collin Yelich, who was the hero in yesterday's game, drove in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning as he reached safely on a fielder's choice, which scored senior Brandon Bayardi from third. Yelich finished the game going 1-for-4 and he had the lone RBI to go along with two runs scored.
UNLV never led in the game until the final frame. Air Force took a 2-0 lead before the Rebels got on the board in the bottom of the third inning. The Falcons then scored two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to take a 6-1 lead before UNLV added three in the bottom of the sixth. Air Force would add one more in the seventh before the Rebels rallied, scoring two in the eighth and two more in the ninth to win the game.
Sophomore John Richy (2-3) got the start for the Rebels, but only went 4.0 innings after allowing five runs on eight hits. Senior Mark Shannon (3-1) came in for relief, leaving his starting spot of center field, and pitched 4.0 innings, allowing two runs on four hits, while striking out four. Nicolas Libonati (1-0) came in for relief in the top of the ninth and retired the Falcons in order.
Freshman Joey Armstrong led the Rebels from the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored. Bayardi was the only other player to have multiple hits for UNLV as he finished 2-for-3 and scored two runs.
UNLV now moves to 7-3 when playing on Easter, and improves its record to 4-0 over Air Force when playing on the holiday.
The Rebels will return to action on Friday as they will travel to face Fresno State. The first game is scheduled to start at 6:35 p.m. Fans can follow the action off of links at UNLVRebels.com.
