Rebels Rally To Beat Bulldogs 9-8|

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV baseball (21-8, 6-4 Mountain West) scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning to come back and beat Fresno State (7-19, 2-6 MW) 9-8 on Friday night.
Mark Shannon hit a double into left center that scored Joey Swanner and T.J. White, who both reached via walks. Shannon moved to third on a wild pitch and then scored when Bryan Bonnell flew out to right field.
The Bulldogs took a 3-0 lead after two innings, but the Rebels chipped away at the lead, scoring one run in the third and two in the sixth when Shannon hit his second home run of the year.
UNLV would take a 6-3 lead after scoring three in the top of the seventh inning. Fresno State responded with two runs in the bottom of the seventh and then three more in the eighth to take a 8-6 lead before the Rebels rallied in the top of the ninth.
Erick Fedde (4-0) got the start for UNLV and went 6.1 innings. He struck out six, but allowed five runs, four of which were earned, on seven hits. Brady Zuniga and Nicolas Libonati each made relief appearances before Andrew Beresford (4-0) pitched the final 1.1 innings to pick up the win.
Shannon led the Rebels from the plate, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and three runs scored. White was the only other Rebel to have multiple hits in the game as he finished 2-for-4 with three runs scored.
UNLV and Fresno State will play the second game of the three-game series tomorrow at 6:35 p.m. Buddy Borden (3-1, 1.71 ERA) will get the nod for the Rebels, while the Bulldog’s starter is still TBA. Fans can follow the action online via Gametracker at UNLVRebels.com.
