LAS VEGAS - The 21st-ranked UNLV baseball team defeated Southern Utah 9-1 on Tuesday night at Earl E. Wilson Stadium. With the win, the Rebels improve to 29-11 on the season, while the Thunderbirds fall to 7-15.

Giovanni Pupo (3-0) earned the win for the Rebels. He threw 6.0 innings, giving up one run on three hits with five strikeouts. Adam Lesko, Matt Wagner and Ryan Braun threw an inning each to finish the game.

Derek Bunker (0-1) picked up the loss, after giving up the go-ahead run in the fifth inning.

Up 2-1 in the sixth, UNLV's Peter White put the game away with a bases-clearing three-run double. He finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored.

Garett Shitanishi and Fernando Valenzuela added a pair of hits each. Shitanishi went 2-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Valenzuela finished the game 2-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored.

The Thunderbirds were led by Jake Reynolds, who went 2-for-2 and drove in the team's only run.

UNLV travels to Air Force for a three-game series beginning Friday at 1 p.m.
