April 16, 2013
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV baseball (24-12, 8-7 Mountain West) cruised to a 24-11 victory over UC Riverside (17-15, 6-3 Big West) on Tuesday in Riverside, Calif.
The Rebels handed the Highlanders their first loss of the season at the Riverside Sports Complex. Coming into the game UCR was 11-0 at “The Plex” in 2013.
T.J. White etched his name in the UNLV record book, as he finished the game a perfect 7-for-7 with six RBI and five runs scored. He joins his older brother J.C. Sibley as the only other Rebel to record seven hits in a game in program history. Sibley went 7-for-7 against Air Force on May 7, 2005.
UNLV hung some crooked numbers on UCR, scoring six runs in fourth inning and seven runs in the fifth inning. The Rebels’ final line was 24 runs on 29 hits and they did not commit an error. It is the first time this season that UNLV has recorded 20 or more runs and it is the most hits the team has had since the they recorded 30 hits against Butler in 2009.
Every Rebel starter recorded a hit in the game and nine UNLV players had multiple hits in the game. Patrick Armstrong finished the game 4-for-5 with two doubles and now leads the team with 12 doubles this season.
The Rebels will return to Las Vegas and resume Mountain West play against San Diego State. UNLV will host the Aztecs for a three-game series starting on Friday at 6:05 p.m. The two teams will meet again on Saturday at 2:05 p.m. and will wrap up the series on Sunday at 1:05 p.m.
