Rebels Beat Bulldogs 4-1 In Series Opener|

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV baseball (29-16, 12-10 Mountain West) won its series opener 4-1 over Fresno State (15-28, 9-13 MW) and moved back into a tie for second place in the conference.
Fresno State struck first, plating one run in the fourth inning. That would be the only run of the night that UNLV starter Erick Fedde (5-2) would allow.
Fedde pitched 8.0 innings, allowing the lone run on four hits while striking out eight and only walking three. Senior Brady Zuniga picked up his third save of the season, pitching 1.0 inning of relief.
The start of the Rebel rally came in the sixth inning after Brandon Bayardi doubled to left field and Mark Shannon was walked. Erik VanMeetren singled to left loading the bases for Patrick Armstrong, where he then drove in Bayardi with a sacrifice fly to center to tie the game.
UNLV took the lead after Joey Armstrong was walked and Cody Howard reached by way of a Fresno State error, allowing Shannon and VanMeetren to score, still in the sixth inning. Joey Armstrong scored during the next at-bat on a double steal attempt after knocking the ball loose from Bulldog catcher Taylor Ward.
VanMeetren led the Rebels, finishing 2-for-3. As a team, UNLV only recorded six hits amongst five batters.
UNLV and Fresno State will be back in action tomorrow at 2:05 p.m. as Buddy Borden (5-1, 2.19 ERA) is slated to go for the Rebels against the Bulldog's Jordan Brink (3-1, 3.38 ERA).
