SACRAMENTO, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV baseball team recorded 16 hits on its way to a 12-0 shutout of Sacramento State in a non-conference game Friday afternoon at John Smith Field.

UNLV freshman Erick Fedde (6-4) pitched seven innings, giving up just two hits and striking out four to earn his sixth win of the season.

The Rebels (24-29) scored three runs in the top of the first inning, off a two-run double by Trevor Kirk and a Danny Higa RBI single. The Rebels then scored one in the fourth, two in fifth, and three in both the sixth and seventh innings.

Mark Shannon went 3-for-6 on the afternoon with four RBI and three runs scored. He hit his fifth home run of the season, a three-run shot in the sixth inning to give the Rebels a nine-run lead at that point. Shannon was also one of four Rebels to double in the game.

Erik VanMeetren also recorded three hits for UNLV, while Joey Swanner, Scott Dysinger and Brandon Pletsch all had multi-hit games.

Tanner Mendonca (6-8) took the loss for Sacramento State (29-24), which managed just four total hits as a team. Mendonca pitched five innings, giving up nine hits and six runs (five earned).

The three-game series between the Hornets and Rebels will continue with a 1 p.m. game on Saturday and conclude on Sunday, also at 1 p.m.
