FRESNO, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - Behind solid pitching and a fifth-inning grand slam, No. 2 seed UNLV (37-18) won its first Mountain West Baseball tournament game since 2010 with a 6-3 win over No. 3 seed San Diego State.

The Rebels captured their fifth win over the Aztecs (27-29) this season and advance in the winner's bracket where they will face the winner of No. 1 New Mexico or No. 5 Nevada at 7 p.m. Thursday evening.

San Diego State got off to a good start as sophomore Greg Allen lined the first pitch of the afternoon down the third baseline for a double and scored the first run on a RBI single from Tim Zier.

The Aztecs added another run in the fourth when Brad Haynal hit an RBI single through the left side for a 2-0 lead.

SDSU's right-handed starter Michael Cederoth retired 11 consecutive UNLV batters from the first to fourth innings after giving up a walk and a single to the first two batters he faced, but the Rebels would attack in the bottom of the fifth. UNLV loaded the bases with no outs when T.J. White hit an RBI single through the left side to get the Rebels on the board.

With the bases still loaded, three-time All-MW honoree>Brandon Bayardi stepped to the plate and crushed the first pitch for a grand slam to left center to give UNLV a 5-2 lead.

The Rebels tacked on another run in the seventh as junior Patrick Armstrong singled to left field increasing the lead to 6-2. SDSU's final run came in the top of the eighth as Brad Haynal hit a sac fly to center field to score Zier from third base to bring the score to 6-3.
