Quaney's Complete Game Earns MW Recognition|
March 7, 2017
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV Baseball's Larry Quaney III was named the Mountain West's Pitcher of the Week for games played through March 5. The Conference also recognized New Mexico's Carl Stajduhar as its Player of Week.
Quaney led the Scarlet & Gray to a 7-1 win at San Jose State last Saturday. The sophomore out of Cimarron-Memorial High School threw all nine innings to record his first complete game as a Rebel. He struck out three batters and walked none. He allowed only one run -- a first-inning tally -- and a total of eight hits in the affair. From the second inning on, he only allowed six runners to reach base with just one advancing as far as third base.
Through three weeks of play, UNLV has claimed the past two weekly awards for pitchers, as junior RHP Alan Strong was recognized by the Conference last week.
UNLV returns to Las Vegas and Earl E. Wilson Stadium for five straight that begins with a weekend series against the Air Force Falcons that runs Friday through Sunday. The three-game set is being billed as the "Military Appreciation Series," and any military personnel with an I.D. can receive two free tickets. Additionally, the first 500 fans through the stadium gates will receive a free Rebel baseball camo t-shirt while the first 600 pours of beer -- courtesy of Miller-Coors and the UNLV Baseball Club -- will only be $1.
Tickets can be purchased online and in-advance for $5 at UNLVTickets.com. Tickets purchased at the gate are $8 for adults, $6 for senior/faculty/staff, while kids 12 and under as well as UNLV students are free of charge.
