Mountain West Makes A Strong Selection|
March 20, 2017
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV Baseball’s Alan Strong was named the Mountain West’s Pitcher of the Week for games played through March 19. The Conference also recognized San Diego State’s Tyler Adkison as its Player of Week.
Strong helped the Scarlet & Gray to a 5-3 victory at San Diego State last Friday. The junior out of Santee, California, threw 5.2 innings and only allowed one run off of four hits. Additionally, he struck out four against three walks. He allowed nine Aztecs to reach base during his time on the mound; seven were left stranded, one was forced out and one scored.
Through five weeks of play, UNLV has claimed the three weekly awards for pitchers, as Strong and fellow righty Larry Quaney were recognized by the Conference February 27 and March 7, respectively.
The Rebels travel to the West Texas plains for two games – Tuesday (6:30 pm CT/4:30 pm CT) and Wednesday (12:00 pm CT/10:00 am PT) – against the No. 3 Texas Tech Red Raiders, who are 17-4 and fresh off a weekend sweep of then-No. 21 Texas. The Red Raiders are ranked third nationally by three of the weekly polls: D1Baseball.com, Perfect Game and USA Today/ESPN.
The Rebels will return to Las Vegas and Earl E. Wilson Stadium for a three-game, MW series against New Mexico (March 24-26) after their two-step through the Lone Star State.
Tickets can be purchased online and in-advance for $5 at UNLVTickets.com. Tickets purchased at the gate are $8 for adults, $6 for senior/faculty/staff, while kids 12 and under as well as UNLV students are free of charge.
