Kirk Named Academic All-District

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV baseball senior outfielder Trevor Kirk has been named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District 8 Baseball First Team, which was voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America and announced on Thursday.
Kirk, who is from Las Vegas, is majoring in kinesiological studies and has a 3.55 grade point average. He has been in the starting lineup for the Rebels each of the past two years and this season he is leads the team in batting average (.382), and he ranked 27th in the country in games through April 29 with an average of .391. He also leads the Rebels in runs scored with 43 and is second in hits with 63. He is fifth on the team in RBI with 26 and his slugging percentage of .545 ranks second on the squad.
Kirk, who was named to the All-Mountain West second team last season, attended the College of Southern Nevada before transferring to UNLV. He is a graduate of Silverado High School and was one of 11 student-athletes from nine schools represented on the Academic All-District 8 squad. The Academic All-District teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. There are eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.
Kirk will now be on the Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
District 8 includes institutions from the states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington, in addition to schools from Canada.
