LAS VEGAS - As the summer heats up, so have several UNLV baseball players who are participating in summer collegiate leagues all across the country, which run through the middle of August.

Rebel seniors Rance Roundy and Drew Beuerlein, who are playing for the Rochester (Wis.) Honkers, were named to the Northwoods League All-Star team, and they will participate in the All-Star game on July 21, in Thunder Bay, Canada. Roundy leads the Honker regulars with a .327 batting average and a league-leading 18 doubles, while Beuerlein is hitting .284 with three home runs and 19 RBI.

UNLV senior pitcher Matt Hutchison and senior infielder Jarred Frierson were selected for the California College League/All-Star game, which was played last night in Compton, Calif. Hutchinson represented the Santa Barbara Foresters while Frierson represented the Academy Barons. Frierson went 1-2 in the game with a walk and a run scored.

Recent Rebel signee Richie Jimenez was named the West Coast League Player of the Week after going 14-for-29 last week for the Corvallis (Ore.) Knights, improving his league-leading batting average to .447. He also leads the league with 38 hits, helping the Knights to a summer college baseball ranking of No. 4, according to Perfect Game Crosschecker.
