Runnin' Rebels Win Exhibition In Overtime|

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's basketball team began the 2012-13 campaign with an 81-80 overtime win over Dixie State in its lone exhibition game of the season on Wednesday night at the Thomas & Mack Center.
The Red Storm took a seven-point lead with three minutes left in overtime, but the Runnin' Rebels responded, scoring the final eight points of the contest. Senior guard Anthony Marshall found junior forward Carlos Lopez-Sosawho laid up the final bucket to give UNLV a one-point lead with six seconds left. The Runnin' Rebels were able to hold off Dixie State in the waning seconds to secure the win.
Marshall finished with 16 points and a team-high six assists, while Lopez-Sosa's only points came on the Runnin' Rebels' final shot.
UNLV used a strong shooting performance in the first half to take a 47-30 lead at the break. The Rebels shot 46 percent from the field and only missed one free throw to finish 17-of-18 from the line in the first half.
The Red Storm rallied, however, going on an 11-0 run to pull within six points to open the second half. As a team they shot 53 percent in the second stanza compared to the Runnin' Rebels' 25 percent. Dixie State took the lead with 4:34 left in the second half, building its lead to as many as five before the Runnin' Rebels were able to regroup. Freshman guard Katin Reinhardtscored five unanswered points to put UNLV back in front with 1:08 left in regulation. He finished with a team-high 20 points.
Dixie State, a NCAA Division II team, sent the game into overtime when Dalton Groskruetz was fouled and then hit two free throws with six seconds left. He finished with 19 points and six rebounds. McKay Massey led the way for the Red Storm, recording 25 points, nine rebounds and eight assists, all team highs.
UNLV senior forward Quintrell Thomas helped the effort by chipping in 14 points and pulling down a team-high 10 rebounds for UNLV. He was also 8-for-8 from the charity stripe. As a team UNLV finished 27-of-34 from the free-throw line. Junior forward Mike Moserscored 15 points, but his night was cut short when he fouled out with 2:29 left in regulation.
The win was UNLV's 16th straight exhibition victory and 29th win in its last 30 exhibition games. UNLV's regular season begins Monday, Nov. 12, when the Rebels host Northern Arizona at 7:00 p.m. at the Thomas & Mack Center. As of Wednesday, approximately 800 tickets remained available for purchase.
