UNLV (10-3) scored the game's first 10 points and never trailed as the Rebels cruised to their fourth straight victory and seventh in eight games.
UNLV led 19-3 with 12:13 to play in the first half after a 3-pointer from Adams and five straight points from Shaw.
The Rebels play Minnesota Sunday in the final game of the four-team, round robin event. Both teams are 2-0 in the tournament.
It's the final non-conference game of the season for UNLV, which begins its Mountain West season at Colorado State on Jan. 5.
Anatoly Bose led all scorers with 17 points for Nicholls State, and Adonis Gray added 10.
The Colonels (4-10) shot just 30 percent, including 3-of-23 from behind the 3-point arc.
