Runnin' Rebels' Five-Game Win Streak Snapped In Loss To Boise State

LAS VEGAS ( - The UNLV men's basketball team (11-3, 0-1 MW) lost 83-74 to Boise State at the Thomas & Mack Center Saturday night in its Mountain West opener. 

The loss snapped a five-game win streak for the Runnin' Rebels. 

Three UNLV players scored in double figures, led by junior forward Shakur Juiston's 25 points. Senior guard Jordan Johnson had 20 points, while freshman forward Brandon McCoy recorded his 10th double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds. 

Boise State (12-2, 2-0 MW) was led by Chandler Hutchison's 32 points.

THE TURNING POINT: UNLV led by six, 43-37, two minutes into the second half, but Boise State used a 23-4 run to take a 13 point lead (60-47) with 11 minutes to go.

STAT OF THE GAME: Boise State out-rebounded UNLV 48-29 for the game.

RUNNIN’ REBELS OF THE GAME: Juiston was 10 of 14 from the field, and McCoy was 7 of 9. Johnson made three 3-pointers and dished out six assists with no turnovers.

QUOTABLE: Obviously very disappointed with the outcome. There are a lot of areas where we need to improve. But at the end of the day we lost to a really good team that just out-toughed us in more than one area, especially from the rebounding side. We will try to make the adjustments.” - UNLV head coach Marvin Menzies.  

UNLV has now made at least one 3-pointer in 1,020 straight games.
- This was just the third game (out of 14) that UNLV didn't shoot at least 50 percent from the field. The Runnin' Rebels shot 40.3 percent (27 of 67) vs. the Broncos.
- UNLV had a season-low seven turnovers.
- There were a total of 11 lead changes and 10 ties in the game.
- Boise State out-scored UNLV in points in the paint, 50-34.
- UNLV's bench scored just two points, while Boise State's contributed 19.
UNLV used the same starting lineup for the 14th straight game.

NEXT FOR THE RUNNIN’ REBELS: UNLV will travel to San Jose State for its first Mountain West road game of the season on Wednesday, Jan. 3. The 8 p.m. game will be televised by AT&T SportsNet.
