UNLV Falls to UCLA, 65-57
LAS VEGAS (AP) - Toby Bailey scored 15 points and J.R. Henderson added 13 as No. 9 UCLA beat UNLV 65-57 Saturday night despite scoring just six points in the final 6:30 of the game.
Freshman guard Baron Davis added 11 points and 13 rebounds for the Bruins (8-1). Kris Johnson scored 12 points and Earl Watson added 10.
Tyrone Nesby had 25 points for the Rebels (5-5).
UCLA led 57-41 after Bailey hit two free throws with 6:30 remaining. But the Bruins turned the ball over three times and missed three straight free throws, and the Rebels went on a 10-0 run to close to 57-51.
UCLA scored six points in the final 1:21 to seal the victory.
The Bruins jumped to a 9-2 lead. Henderson scored seven points and forced Kaspars Kambala, the Rebels' leading scorer, into two quick fouls. Kambala was limited to eight points.
UCLA built a 28-10 lead as the Rebels missed 15 of their first 19 shots. Nesby scored UNLV's first nine points and finished with 13 in the half. Mark Dickel's free throw was UNLV's other point in the first 10 minutes.
UCLA led at the 37-26 at the half.
The Rebels made only 33 percent of its shots in the first half, while the Bruins shot 40 percent.
