UNLV Falls at Wyoming, 73-62


LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) - Wyoming made ten free throws in the final 28 seconds to beat UNLV 73-62 Saturday night, snapping a four-game losing streak to the Runnin' Rebels.

Jeron Roberts, with 25 points, was fouled with less than 30 seconds to go, and UNLV coach Bill Bayno was called for a technical with 19 seconds left. Roberts hit all four free throws for a 69-62 lead.

The ball was inbounded and Roberts was fouled again with 17 seconds left and made both free throws to make it 71-62.

Then Wyoming's Gregg Sawyer hit two more free throws after he was fouled by Mark Dickel, who was ejected. Sawyer finished the game with 14 points.

Wyoming (14-5, 4-3 Western Athletic Conference), which led most of the first half, was up 27-24 at halftime.

The Runnin' Rebels (10-10, 2-5) chipped away and cut the lead to three with 8:44 left on a basket by Greedy Daniels.

But Wyoming took a 46-45 lead on a 3-pointer by Bradley Mann with 8:08 to go. Mann came off the bench and scored five 3-pointers.

The Cowboys went up 56-47 two more free throws by Roberts when UNLV's Kaspars Kambala was called for a flagrant foul and was ejected with 5:38 left.

Kevin Simmons had a career-high 20 points, all in second half, for UNLV.
