Rebels Fall to New Mexico, 75-66

Simmons Leads UNLV with 20 Points

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Kenny Thomas scored 16 points and Clayton Shields and Lamont Long each had 15 as No. 11 New Mexico beat UNLV 75-66 on Monday night.

The Lobos won their seventh straight, never trailed and led by as many as 14 points in the second half. Royce Olney added 14 points for the Lobos (20-3, 10-1 Western Athletic Conference).

Kevin Simmons led UNLV (13-10, 4-6 WAC) with 20 points and Tyrone Nesby had 18.

New Mexico led 43-32 at the half, but the Rebels cut the lead to five with 10:22 remaining.

Then Thomas hit two free throws and David Gibson made a free throw and basket to put New Mexico ahead 61-51 with 9:01 remaining. Simmons scored on a layup for UNLV but the Lobos then scored six straight points to go up 67-53 with 3:40 left.
