UNLV Beats Air Force 59-57
AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. (AP) - Kevin Simmons scored 15 points, including a pair of pressure-filled free throws with one second to play as UNLV fought off a late rally and beat Air Force 59-57 Thursday night.
With three seconds to play and the game tied 57-57, Air Force's Jarmica Reese missed a 16-footer and the Falcons' David Schuck was called for a loose ball foul as he attempted to grab the rebound, sending Simmons to the free-throw line.
Leading 32-29 at the half, UNLV (11-10, 3-5 Western Athletic Conference) built a 57-48 advantage with 5:03 to play, but Air Force (8-10, 1-7 WAC) forged an 11-0 run - keyed by Mike Freeman's six points - that tied the game 57-57 with 1:18 left.
Keon Clark scored a game-high 18 points for the Rebels, who scored just one field goal in the final six minutes.
Freeman and Reese each scored 14 points for Air Force, which led just once, 25-23 with 5:08 to play in the first half.
