Jan. 13, 2012
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV Athletics has announced it will be holding a Public Open House of the new Mendenhall Center men's basketball practice facility on Saturday, Jan. 28, from 1-3 p.m. Fans are invited to tour the new state-of-the-art practice facility as the event is free and open to the public.
The Mendenhall Center is located on the UNLV campus, adjacent to the Cox Pavilion and the Thomas & Mack Center.
The new building was made possible by a group of donors led by Bob Mendenhall, and also included Maury Gallagher, Bill Paulos, Bill Wortman and Hope Anstett. The facility has a total of 38,000 square feet of space on three levels. Included are two basketball courts, an academic area and film room, locker rooms, athletic training, strength and conditioning, and equipment areas. It was built entirely through the private sector and will be gifted to the university.
After the Public Open House on Jan. 28, fans are invited to attend the Lady Rebel basketball game vs. Air Force in the Cox Pavilion, which tips off at 3 p.m. that day. Those attending the Mendenhall Center event will receive a 50% discount to Lady Rebel game that day. Normal ticket prices are $8 and kids 12-and-under are always free. The Lady Rebels are currently 13-4 and off to their best start since the 2003-04 season. The Runnin' Rebels then play at Air Force at 6 p.m. PST that evening with the game being televised on The Mtn., giving fans time to tour the Mendenhall Center, support the Lady Rebels in-person and watch the Runnin' Rebels on television.
MEDIA NOTE: A private, by invite-only dedication of the facility for donors and those involved with developing the center is being held on Thursday, Jan. 19, at 4 p.m. That event is closed to the public, but media are welcome to attend to cover.
Following the private Mendenhall Center dedication, the Governor's BBQ for the UNLV Rebels is scheduled to take place at the Cox Pavilion. Tickets are $100 per person, which is open to the public and starts at 5:30 p.m. More information on that event may be found by clicking here.
