LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV junior forward Shakur Juistion was named Mountain West Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. It is Juiston's second career weekly honor, and the fourth for a Runnin' Rebel player this season. Juiston was also named the league's Player of the Week on Dec. 26.
The Newark, New Jersey native, who came to UNLV out of Hutchinson Community College in Kansas, helped the Runnin' Rebels to a 2-0 record last week, catapulting the team into third place in the MW standings. UNLV won at then-No. 23 UNR (86-78) on Wednesday and defeated Wyoming (85-70) at home on Saturday. The win in Reno was UNLV's first over a ranked team since 2015 and snapped the Wolf Pack's 16-game home win streak.
He averaged 20.5 ppg and 13.0 rpg, while shooting 76.9 percent from the field (20 of 26) for the week. He recorded double-doubles in both games and registered a total of four blocked shots.
On Wednesday, Juiston notched his 10th double-double of the season with 19 points and 12 rebounds, while shooting 9 of 11. On Saturday, he had his 11th double-double with a game-high 22 points and 14 rebounds. He was 11 of 15 from the field and also blocked three shots, while dishing out two assists.
