LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV senior forward Chace Stanback will compete in the Hampton Hotels 3-Point Contest, which is part of the 2012 State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships held in New Orleans prior to the NCAA Final Four.
The 24th annual event will showcase the dunking and sharp-shooting talents of 24 of the nation's top college basketball players. Also included will be the State Farm Women's 3-Point Contest, Pure Protein Battle of the Champions, and Denny's Slam Dunk Contest. It will be televised by ESPN on Thursday, March 29, at 6 p.m. PT.
Stanback was named third team All-Mountain West this season, helping the Runnin' Rebels to a 26-9 record and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. He shot 45.5 percent from 3-point range, which led the team and was tops in the Mountain West. It was the sixth-best single-season 3-point percentage in UNLV history (minimum 40 attempts). He was second on the team in scoring with 12.5 ppg, which ranked 10th in the MW.
Stanback made 161 3-pointers during his three-year UNLV playing career, which ranks seventh in school history and he shot 38.7 percent from behind the arc over that span, which is just outside the top 10 all-time at UNLV. His 80 made 3-pointers this season led the team and tied for seventh all-time at UNLV. He finished his career No. 22 on the UNLV career scoring list with 1,219 points.
The final roster for this year's State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships will be completed soon. Some of the other participants include: Miles Plumlee (Duke), DeQuan Jones (Miami), Marcus Denmon (Missouri) and John Shurna (Northwestern). It will take place at Tulane University's Fogelman Arena.
