UNLV Men's Basketball - Rebel Shorts Series|
LAS VEGAS - Little kids, tall guys and even a little dancing. Yes, the entire Rebel Shorts series (2006-08) is now available at UNLVRebels.com.
For the second consecutive season (in 2007-08), the UNLV sports marketing department produced short video segments - ranging from 30-45 seconds - to highlight the UNLV men's basketball team in a different light.
"This was a fun project for our guys," said head coach Lon Kruger. "It allows our fans to see the players in a different light - in some humorous situations."
Kruger was featured in what turned out to be the most popular Rebel Short from the first series produced in 2006-07. He was shown watching a practice alone on the sidelines when he decided to bite on a towel, paying respects to legendary UNLV coach Jerry Tarkanian.
The Rebel Shorts series from this past sesaon (2007-08) features eight spots, including the popular "Show & Tell," which has been a fan favorite when shown during home games on the video screens. The spot features a kindergartener bringing Kruger and a group of Runnin' Rebels to school for show and tell. As the marketing slogan suggests, she made the Rebels her team.
Favorites also include Joe Darger and Scott Hoffman learning about The Cobra shooting technique as well René Rougeau and Troy Cage being taught - in a fan's daydream - about the fundamentals of rebounding. Wink Adams, Kendall Wallace and Kruger are also taught about basketball in various daydreams by the fan.
Also, in a tribute to the 20-year-old McDonald's commercial featuring Larry Bird and Michael Jordan, Adams and Darger play a game of H-O-R-S-E.
The spots were written and produced by a team made up of Imagine Marketing and PixelVision Productions - whose principals are UNLV graduates and lifelong Runnin' Rebel fans. Jeff Johnson - a UNLV graduate, lifelong fan and a current high school teacher - plays the recurring role of a UNLV fan.
In addition to being played during games and available at UNLVRebels.com, the spots from the series are available on YouTube.
