LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV Athletics announced its opponents and dates for the non-conference portion of its 2017-18 men's basketball schedule Monday. The program’s Mountain West slate was announced in June.

The Runnin' Rebels are scheduled to face five teams coming off postseason appearances with at least 20 wins and will also play four games on the world famous Las Vegas Strip during non-conference play.

Head Coach Marvin Menzies, who is in his second season leading the UNLV program, has brought in a recruiting class that has been ranked as high as No. 12 in the country. "We are excited about the upcoming season," Menzies said. "We have added many new pieces to our team and have put together an exciting and competitive schedule. With such a young team, it is one that will prepare us well for our Mountain West season.

"We are also happy to be playing four times on the Las Vegas Strip and very pleased that our season ticket holders will have access to each of those games."

UNLV will open the 2017-18 season by playing its first seven games in Las Vegas. The first four will be at the Thomas & Mack Center against Alaska Fairbanks (exhibition) Friday, Nov. 3, Florida A&M Saturday, Nov. 11, Prairie View A&M Wednesday, Nov. 15 and Eastern Washington Friday, Nov. 17.

The Prairie View A&M and Eastern Washington games (played at TMC) will be part of the preliminary rounds of the MGM Resorts Main Event tournament. Eastern Washington is coming off a 22-win season, finishing second in the Big Sky with an appearance in the College Basketball Invitational.

The heavyweight rounds of the MGM Resorts Main Event will be played Monday, Nov. 20 and Wednesday, Nov. 22 at T-Mobile Arena. The Runnin' Rebels will face Rice Nov. 20 and then either Ole Miss or Utah Nov. 22. UNLV season ticket holders will have access to complimentary tickets for those games.

Rice won 23 games last year, making the CBI, while Ole Miss won 22 games en route to a National Invitation Tournament appearance. Utah won 20 games, while also making the NIT.

UNLV will return home to the Thomas & Mack Center Saturday, Nov. 25 vs. Southern Utah before traveling for its first road game of the season Wednesday, Nov. 29 at Northern Iowa as part of the Mountain West/Missouri Valley Challenge.

Saturday, Dec. 2, UNLV will host defending Pac-12 champion Arizona at the Thomas & Mack Center. The Wildcats are coming off a 32-5 record and NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 appearance.

While the National Finals Rodeo takes over the Thomas & Mack Center for a couple of weeks, UNLV will play at the MGM Grand Garden Arena against Oral Roberts Tuesday, Dec. 5 and Illinois Saturday, Dec. 9. The game against Illinois will benefit Coaches vs. Cancer. The Illini, who are led by first-year head coach Brad Underwood, won 20 games last season and made an NIT appearance. Tickets to the games at MGM Grand will also be available to UNLV season ticket holders at no additional cost.

UNLV will play its second and final non-conference road game Saturday, Dec. 16 at Pacific, before returning to the Thomas & Mack Center to host Mississippi Valley State Wednesday, Dec. 20 and Northern Colorado Friday, Dec. 22.

UNLV's Mountain West schedule will begin Saturday, Dec. 30 vs. Boise State.

All game times and television appearances will be announced at a later date.
