'Tickets For Teachers' Program Returns
Aug. 12, 2010
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's basketball program has announced the return of its "Tickets for Teachers" program for the upcoming 2010-11 season to say "thank you" to local teachers.
Working with the Clark County School District's School-Community Partnership, the program has celebrated amazing success over the past two years. The program, which started prior to the 2008-09 season, provided two season tickets to every elementary and middle school in the district, which principals used to give to teachers as an incentive.
UNLV men's basketball along with the CCSD's School-Community Partnership will team up again this year to provide tickets to all 274 schools.
"The `Tickets for Teachers' program is a small way to recognize teachers, but has a big impact," said UNLV men's basketball head coach Lon Kruger, who also serves on the advisory board of the Clark County School District's School-Community Partnership. "The feedback we receive from teachers is amazing and we are looking forward to another successful year of the program."
Tickets are provided through "angel" donations from community members. A school - two tickets - can be sponsored from $180 for the men's basketball season. Donors purchase tickets through the UNLV Athletics' ticketing department. (Preferred schools can be recommended by donors, however, the program's goal is to have all schools sponsored.) After the purchase, the ticketing department then facilitates the donation of the tickets to the Rebel Athletic Fund, which is in the name of the donor and is tax-deductible. (A gift receipt will be sent to the donor.) The RAF will then donate the tickets to the CCSD's School-Community Partnership to be distributed to the schools.
"Over the past two years, thousands of Clark County School District teachers were recognized because of all the generous donations," said Bridget Phillips, director of the Clark County School District's School-Community Partnership. "The CCSD School-Community Partnership Office received numerous calls from teachers stating how wonderful it was to have an evening out and how much they appreciated the tickets."
Renewal packets for last year's supporters of the program were sent out earlier this week. Those interested in more information on the program or supporting schools can contact Sue Schwartz in the UNLV Athletics Ticketing Department at 702-895-3679 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
