OTTAWA, Ontario, Canada (UNLVRebels.com) -
The Runnin’ Rebels held an 11 a.m. ET practice at Immaculata Catholic High School on Friday, Aug. 17, but the news of the day may have been the ear-piercing fire alarm at the team hotel at just after 4 a.m....

FALSE ALARM
The source of the alarm was narrowed down to the 23rd floor and several fire trucks were sent to investigate. It turned out to be nothing other than some irritated, evacuated guests.

WE’RE TALKIN’ ABOUT PRACTICE…
Back to practice… click here to see the Las Vegas Sun’s photo gallery from practice shot by Sam Morris, and click here to see some video clips from the short, late-morning session.

WHO ARE THESE GUYS?

TWEET THE LIVE STREAM PLAY-BY-PLAY GUY
On Sunday, at 11 a.m. PT, UNLV’s game vs. the Ottawa Gee-Gees will be live streamed (video). Greg Gallagher will handle the play-by-play and invites viewers to tweet him questions throughout the broadcast to @ggottawa … Click here for the direct link to watch.

COVERING THE RUNNIN’ REBELS
In addition to the Las Vegas Sun guys, Matt Youmans from the Las Vegas Review-Journal and Chris Maathuis from KLAS TV channel 8 have made the trip to cover the Runnin’ Rebels in Canada. Click here to read Matt’s coverage and be sure to watch channel 8 or click here nightly for Chris’ reports. Channel 8 will also have a 30-minute show recapping the trip, which is scheduled to air Sunday, Aug. 26 at 11:30 p.m.

SOME EXPLORING TIME
The Runnin’ Rebels were able to explore the city of Ottawa a little bit on Friday afternoon. After the team returned to the hotel from practice, most of the team took part in a voluntary lift session with strength and conditioning coach Jason Kabo in the hotel gym. Then, the guys were on their own for the rest of the day. Most walked down to the area in town known as the Market, which is littered with shops and restaurants, and was buzzing with activity.

LET THE GAMES BEGIN
The Runnin’ Rebels play their first exhibition game of the trip tonight (Saturday) vs. Carleton University at 7 p.m. ET at Fenn Gymnasium. Carleton is the two-time defending Canadian Interuniversity Sport champion and finished the 2011-12 season with a perfect 34-0 record. Check UNLVRebels.com later tonight for the game recap, stats and full-game video. As mentioned before, the when the video is available to view, the link will be posted on this page. Depending on upload time from the team hotel, it may not be available until Sunday morning. We understand the demand, but please be patient as the internet speed here is not as fast as we hoped it would be.

OTTAWA, Ontario, Canada (UNLVRebels.com) -
On Thursday, Aug. 16, the Runnin’ Rebels left Las Vegas for their summer foreign exhibition tour of Canada. The NCAA permits this type of trip once every four years and the team was able to get a head start on the 2012-13 season by having 10 days of practice in Las Vegas prior to departing. UNLV will play four exhibition games while north of the border - two of the games will be played here in Ottawa, while the other two will be in Montreal.

Some other news and notes:

BETTER LATE THAN NEVER
The Runnin’ Rebels left campus at 9 a.m. PT for McCarran Airport and were scheduled to leave on a non-stop Air Canada flight to Montreal at 11:15 a.m. PT. The flight was delayed and left almost exactly two hours later. After landing in Montreal, the team then bused 124 miles to Ottawa, stopping for food along the way. Finally, just after 12:30 a.m. ET on Friday, UNLV checked in to its hotel and retired for the night.

AND NOW, YOUR RUNNIN’ REBELS…
The following 10 scholarship players made the trip and are all expected to play once the exhibition games get underway:

Daquan Cook (Fr., G), Bryce Dejean-Jones (So., G), Savon Goodman (Fr., F), Justin Hawkins (Sr. G), Carlos Lopez (Jr., F), Anthony Marshall (Sr., G), Demetris Morant (Fr., F), Mike Moser (Jr., F), Katin Reinhardt (Fr., G) and Quintrell Thomas (Sr., F)

The other three scholarship players were unable to participate in these summer practices or travel with the team to Canada: Anthony Bennett (Fr., F), Khem Birch (So., F) and Roscoe Smith (Jr., F).

Bennett, who is from Brampton, Ontario, is cleared for the fall semester, but wasn’t certified in time for summer school. (Being in classes during the summer is a requirement for incoming students to be able to participate in a summer foreign exhibition tour.). Birch, also from Canada (Montreal, Quebec), is not eligible until after the fall semester because of his mid-year transfer to UNLV from Pitt in January. Smith, a transfer from Connecticut, is still awaiting word from the NCAA on his waiver application.

RUNNIN’ REBEL FEVER
When the Runnin’ Rebels began practicing for their Canadian tour on Aug. 4, over 400 fans packed the Mendenhall Center to get their first glimpse of the 2012-13 squad. There aren’t too many programs across the country enjoying that kind of incredible support from their community as UNLV does. All Canada trip practices were open to the public and each and every session had a large number of onlookers.

GAME SCHEDULE
After an 11 a.m. ET practice scheduled for Friday, Aug. 17, the exhibition games start on Saturday, Aug. 18. Complete game schedule:

Saturday, Aug. 18 vs. Carleton (7 p.m. ET) – at Carleton in Ottawa
Sunday, Aug. 19 vs. Ottawa (2 p.m. ET) – at Ottawa
Monday, Aug. 20 vs. Laval (7 p.m. ET) – at McGill in Montreal
Tuesday, Aug. 21 vs. McGill (7 p.m. ET) – at McGill in Montreal

LIVE VIDEO STREAMING INFORMATION
Only one of the facilities that the games will be played in has reliable internet. The one that does: vs. Ottawa on Sunday, Aug. 19 at 2 p.m. ET/11 a.m. PT will be live streamed and viewable for free. The link is available on this page: http://www.ssncanada.ca/games/

ALL FOUR GAMES VIEWABLE ON-DEMAND AT UNLVREBELS.COM
All four of the games will be recorded via the coaches scout camera and will be uploaded to UNLVRebels.com following each game. All will be available for fans to view for free. We understand the demand and hope to have them posted and available as soon as possible. Depending on logistics those times will vary. The goal is to have them available later on each night of the game, but if not, they should be ready for viewing the next morning. When available, video links will be posted here, on UNLV Atheltics’ Facebook page as well as @UNLVAthletics on Twitter.

ALUMNI/DONOR RECEPTION/MEET AND GREET IN OTTAWA
On Saturday, Aug. 18, a reception for UNLV Alumni and donors will be held from 4-6 p.m. at the Spin Kitchen & Bar in the Ottawa Marriott. The team will arrive at 5 p.m. for a meet and greet. There will be a short program with remarks from UNLV President Dr. Neal Smatresk. Coach Rice will also speak and introduce his team and staff before heading to the game.
